Márk Váradi (PhD student) and Dr. Dávid Ispán (research fellow) spent a week as guest researchers at the University of Zagreb. Within the framework of the Croatian-Hungarian bilateral cooperation, they took part a joint research project, during which they plan to carry out a new and efficient synthesis of resveratrol derivatives. The Hungarian researchers got to know the other experts participating in the project, the university, and also gave a lecture at the Ruđer Bošković Institute, which is regarded as Croatia’s leading scientific institute in the natural and biomedical sciences as well as marine and environmental research.
In addition, the Hungarian colleagues participated in the preparation of the starting compound, for which they used the Wittig reaction. The head of the host research group, Professor Irena Skoric, provided a full overview of the results already achieved, and they jointly designed a new synthetic procedure for the production of an alternative starting compound. The colleagues were assisted in their work by Antonia Jelcic in the laboratory. But of course, there was time to get to know the city of Zagreb and see its main sights.
